Knowing the basic works of the cards and common terms will help you converse with your opponent during the rummy gameplay. Although not all, a few most used rummy terms have been listed below in layman’s language to help you understand better.

Ace: Aces are good point cards that are used in rummy. You can use ace to make different value series and in general, there are four aces present in a normal deck of 52 cards.

Deck: The pack of 52 cards using which Indian rummy games are played is present in the deck. For a 13-card rummy game, two sets are used with a joker in each set. The closed deck is the un-dealt set of cards. So, it’s common sense that open deck is the dealt set of cards.

Joker: Don’t go by the name. They’re one of the most important cards in a rummy game. you can use a joker card as a substitute for any card which you need urgently to arrange the sequence. But remember, you can do it only once while you play the rummy game.

Dealer: You’ll be called a dealer if you deal with the cards at the beginning of the hand. When you’re playing live rummy, you get to make the decision about the dealer. But there’s no such facility for the online playing of rummy game.

Declare: Once you’re done with the 13 cards, pull off a card and show off the remaining cards in hand to the opponent thereby declaring that your game is complete.

Sequence: This is an important term. In rummy gameplay, you either make a pure or an impure sequence. When you’re able to make a sequence with 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit without taking help from the joker, then be sure that you’re having a pure sequence. It’s very obvious that the opposite will be the impure sequence.

Draw: When you and your opponent take out a card each from the closed and open deck, then the process is known as drawing of cards. This is a continuous process, because all through the game, the players will keep on drawing the cards from the deck.

Discard: Discarding means when the player has to illustrate a card from the open or closed deck and put up the same face-up. As the name suggests, it is a simple discarding of the card from the game.
