Rummy is an internationally renowned matching card game. 13 card rummy, also famous as Indian Rummy is better known for its simple rules and exciting challenges. A show in online rummy is possible only when the player melds his/her hand according to the rules of the game.

The basic rules of the game are:

  • The player has to meld a minimum of two sequences.
  • At least one of the sequences has to be a pure sequence.
  • The rest of the cards have to meld into valid sets and sequences.

In the game of ultimate rummy, a sequence is formed when three or more consecutive cards of the same suit are grouped. For example, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Hearts is a valid sequence.

A pure sequence is formed when no jokers (either the printed joker or wild jokers) are used to form the sequence. On the other hand, an impure sequence is one where the player has used joker(s) to complete the sequence.

A set is a group of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank but from different suits. For example, 3 of Spades, 3 of Clubs, 3 of Diamonds, and 3 of Hearts form a valid set.

Thus, the objective of the game is to arrange the cards into 4 groups of 3, 3, 3, and 4 cards with these groups being either sets or sequences following the above rules.

How is the show made?

When the player knows how to play rummy and is successful in melding his/ her hand cards into valid sets and sequences according to the game rules, the player may shed one card to the discard pile before the show. Then, the player reveals the hand to the other players and submits for validation.

A player who makes a valid show is considered to be the winner. If a player makes a wrong show which means the player has not meld valid sets and sequences, then the player is awarded penalty points of 80 for the wrong show.
